The amazing array of colours from nature, patterns from old silks and textiles, elegant antiquity finds are just some of the objects that create the inspiration behind todays Cavania. As a child I spent many an hour playing with colouring pencils, scrap fabrics and baking cakes with my Grandmother.
A simple button box would hold my imagination for hours, the shapes and colours were simply magical to me. As a child I collected wrapping paper from packaging and still have my folder today stuffed with colorful sweet wrappers and floral papers and parcel ribbons. Watching old movies, I grew up loving the golden age of glamour and I can always remember longing for an old fashioned hatbox to sit on top of my wardrobe.
Today I enjoy exploring images of yesteryear with fashions and details that I could only dream of wearing. Cavania has been an amazing learning curve for me, and a time of self styled development. My first collection of cards was born from a love of stationery and packaging back in 2003. To have spent the last five years being able to paint and draw things that I love as my daily work is an amazing gift.
Thank you with all my heart to the wonderful Cavania customers. Throughout 2008 you blew us all away again with the support and enthusiasm you show for what we do. Without doubt 2009 is going to challenge us all on a level most of us have not seen before, but with the first two shows of the year behind us it was so uplifting to have so many of you dispell the doom and gloom and talk of how optimistic you are.
With your continued support and enthusiasm I am sure Cavania will become even more elegant as she grows.
Our History
Cavania Cards came about in August 2003 through the desire of its founder and designer Karen Sanders.
Grandaughter of Royal Academy Artist Christopher Cavania Sanders, Karen has had art in her life from a very young age. Her view that Greeting Cards are simply art for giving is the basis behind all Cavania designs.
Karen, with her Mother had run a very successful gift shop for over 10 years and Karen had been designing unique handmade products for most of this time. Visiting many a trade show as a buyer had fanned the ambition to create her own publishing company with a unique design based product.
With future husband Christian in tow Cavania was launched at the Brighton Trade show in 2003. Although the show proved to be an eye opener through lack of visitors, the industry friends made that weekend will be with Cavania for years to come. With Karen being nominated as a finalist for the Young Designer award at the 2005 Henries, Cavania has had an amazing start. 2006 came and went with records being broken on all fronts and export oportunities presenting in more and more countries. 2007 has so far seen more of the same, both Spring Shows were amazing, the enthusiasm from both old and new customers just keep driving us forward.
More cards, more gifts, with everything we do based on creating special products at the right price. Karen's designs will continue to be based on the premise that everything we do will give our stockists something special.
